FAQ

What does Ramsey Writing Services do?

Ramsey Writing Services provides writing, editing, proofreading, and document-formatting services for businesses, organizations, publications, and individual writers.

We write website copy, emails, newsletters, blog posts, articles, Substack publications, social media content, advertisements, sales letters, brochures, guides, training materials, and other custom projects. We also edit business materials, academic work, fiction, and other creative writing.

Can you patent my invention?

Nope. Patents are a legal matter handled by patent attorneys and registered patent agents.

Ramsey Writing Services provides copywriting, not patent or intellectual-property services.

Well, what is the difference between copywriting and copyright?

Copywriting is the work of writing material such as websites, emails, advertisements, newsletters, and sales letters.

Copyright is a form of legal protection for original creative work.

They sound alike, but they are entirely different things.

What is the difference between copywriting and copyediting?

A copywriter creates new material. A copyeditor works with material that has already been written.

Copyediting may involve grammar and punctuation, but it also looks at clarity, consistency, flow, rhythm, voice, and whether the meaning holds together from beginning to end.

What kinds of projects does Ramsey Writing Services take on?

We take on one-time and ongoing writing and editing projects for businesses, organizations, publications, and individual writers.

Some projects fit familiar categories, such as a website, newsletter, article, or manuscript. Others do not. If you need something written or edited and do not see it listed on our Services page, send it to us anyway. We will look at the project and tell you honestly whether we can help.

Does Ramsey Writing Services work only with businesses?

No. We work with businesses, organizations, publications, and individual writers.

That may include a business owner who needs website copy, an organization developing educational materials, a publication looking for an article, or an individual who wants help with academic or creative writing.

Do you work only with clients in Virginia?

No. Ramsey Writing Services is based in New Kent County, Virginia, but we can work with clients pretty much anywhere.

Most writing and editing projects can be handled through email, online meetings, shared documents, and other remote tools.

Who will I work with?

You will work directly with Alan Ramsey, Laurie Ramsey, or both.

Alan primarily handles writing projects and also assists with editing. Laurie primarily handles editing and also writes. When a project needs both writing and editing, they can work together while bringing separate writing and editorial perspectives to the material.

Ramsey Writing Services does not pass projects through a large anonymous team or outsource the work without your knowledge.

Can Ramsey Writing Services handle both writing and editing for the same project?

Yes.

Alan can develop the material, and Laurie can review it with a separate editorial eye. Depending on the project, that may include copyediting, proofreading, formatting, or a combination of services.

Can you improve something I have already written?

Yes.

The right service depends on what the material needs. It may need rewriting, copyediting, proofreading, formatting, or some combination of those.

Rewriting makes larger changes to the material. Copyediting improves clarity, consistency, and mechanics while preserving the writer’s voice. Proofreading is the final review for errors before the work is published, submitted, or printed.

Can you write in my voice?

Yes, although learning a person’s voice takes source material and communication.

Existing writing, interviews, notes, recorded conversations, brand guidance, and feedback can all help us understand how you communicate. The goal is not to make every client sound like Ramsey Writing Services. It is to create material that sounds like it belongs to you or your organization.

Do you offer ghostwriting?

Yes.

Ramsey Writing Services can write material that is published under the client’s name or the name of the client’s business, organization, or publication. The scope, attribution, ownership, and confidentiality expectations should be settled before work begins.

Do you take one-time projects and ongoing work?

Yes.

We handle individual assignments as well as continuing work such as newsletters, blog posts, Substack publications, social media content, and other recurring communication.

Our Small Business Content Marketing Sampler and Substack Writing Services are designed for ongoing work, but custom arrangements may also be available.

Do you use artificial intelligence?

Yes, as a support tool under human oversight.

Ramsey Writing Services may use AI for research, brainstorming, customer avatars, and outlines. Every piece of copy produced for paying clients is human-written, reviewed, refined, and approved by a skilled human copywriter.

All editing and proofreading are handled by trained human editors. You can read the full details on our AI Use Policy page.

How much do your services cost?

Pricing depends on the project.

Length, complexity, research, deadline, formatting needs, and whether the project requires writing, editing, or both can all affect the price. After reviewing the project, we will explain the proposed scope and cost before work begins.

Some ongoing services have published package prices:

  • The Small Business Content Marketing Sampler begins at $375 per month with a twelve-month commitment.
  • Substack Writing Services begin at $1,000 per month.
  • The Absolute Starter Package for a new Substack is $1,000 as a one-time service.

How long will my project take?

That depends on the size and complexity of the project, the amount of research or editing required, the deadline, and our current workload.

We will discuss the schedule before work begins. If you have a firm deadline, include it when you contact us so we can determine whether it is workable.

What do you need from me to get started?

Tell us what the project is, what you need it to accomplish, who it is meant to reach, and when you need it.

Existing materials are also helpful. Those might include notes, drafts, website pages, brand guidance, previous writing, background information, or examples of the voice you want to use.

We may ask additional questions before defining the scope and price.

Will Ramsey Writing Services sign a nondisclosure agreement?

We are willing to review reasonable nondisclosure agreements when a project requires one.

The terms need to be reviewed before the agreement is signed and before confidential material is shared.

Can you guarantee sales, traffic, subscribers, or search rankings?

No.

Strong writing can help a business or organization communicate more clearly and persuasively, but no writer can control customer decisions, markets, algorithms, search engines, or publishing platforms.

We can be responsible for the quality of our work. We cannot honestly guarantee a particular business result.

What if my project is not listed on the website?

Send it to us.

Ramsey Writing Services is deliberately broad in the work we consider. If you need something written or edited, we would rather look at the actual project than make you decide whether it fits one of our labels.

We’ll tell you honestly whether we are a good fit.

How do I contact Ramsey Writing Services?

Use the contact form or contact Alan or Laurie directly through the Contact page.

Include a brief description of the project, the kind of help you need, and any deadline you already have in mind.
